      Software Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Twitch

      Interview

I was contacted by the hiring manager via email. I had just started looking for new opportunities so it was really good timing. I went through a phone screen. The interviewers on the phone seemed unprepared and unsure of the question they were asking. They were quite professional though. I heard back within a week that they wanted to invite me for an onsite interview. There was some confusion with scheduling the onsite. They had planned to have a recruiting event initially but they scratched that and decided to go with the traditional way of interviewing onsite. For my onsite, I first met with the hiring manager who gave me an overview of what the day would look like. Most interviews started on time. One of the interviewers was doing a remote call and the interviewer before him wasn't aware of this so my interview started a little late. All the interviewers were pretty nice. I had a lunch break with the team. Lunch was quite casual and a good opportunity to meet the rest of the team. Overall I had 3 coding rounds, one of which was domain specific and design oriented, 1 interview with a product manager and 1 hiring manager round. It was a pretty exhausting day. I heard back about my results the next business day. They may have expedited the process as I was also interviewing with other companies and already had an offer on hand. I declined the offer because I got a better opportunity elsewhere. I had a really good impression of the company and the team I interviewed with. The issues came after my interviews were done. I am still waiting to get reimbursed 2.5 months after the onsite interview!! I have followed up numerous times about this. Initially the recruiting coordinator had forgotten to submit the expenses, when she realized that she said she tried to expedite it and they will send me the reimbursement. But I am still waiting. I have heard many other candidates have a similar experience with Amazon and considering Twitch is owned by Amazon I am not surprised. This definitely makes me hesitant of interviewing with them again or recommending them to my friends.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I was asked algorithms questions for the coding rounds. The design round focused on writing domain specific code after discussing the design. The product manager interview was gauging how I communicate with other non-engineers in the team. Hiring manager round had standard behavioral questions.

      Interview

I passed the Codesignal pre-screen and was invited to an intro call. The intro call included behavioral questions which I didn’t expect so I was not able to give good answers. The recruiter seemed cold and disengaged, he did not answer my email about interview process and did not turn on camera during the call, probably typical for big companies due to high volume of candidates.
