      Software Engineer Interview

      Apr 30, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Twitch in Apr 2021

      Interview

I've applied through Twitch career page. Once you're selected, they send you an email describing the interview process and give you a link to an codility online assessment. In my case it was 3 problems with 100 min time limit. The first one a data structure and algorithm problem. The second one was more tech limited, since you're able to do it only in a small set of languages. And the third one was to fix a bug in an existing code. After passing the code assessment, I received an email setting up an phone screen with a recruiter. The recruiter didn't show up. I've emailed him and re answered 3 hours later, saying that he didn't show up because he had a personal emergency. This is totally understandable, even though I, myself, had already taken part of interview processes and know that for emergencies, a backup can take it over. In the same email, he also asked me about my visa status, which I didn't have applying for a USA position. And he said that I could not continue because they were not sponsor visas, only taking existing ones, which I also understand. However, when you apply for the positions, you inform your visa status, your country and your citizenship, in a form, which I did correctly (I didn't lie or anything, I'm not stupid). So this wasn't suppose to happen. Also my resume had the information about my current country all over the place. Even though the interview was not difficult, it required a lot of preparation (do you remember data structure and algorithms that you've seen in the university 6 years ago?), because I don't know the level of the questions before hand. Once I got accepted I studied even more, because there well tech interviews also in the next steps. I felt really disrespected and frustrated.

      Interview

I passed the Codesignal pre-screen and was invited to an intro call. The intro call included behavioral questions which I didn’t expect so I was not able to give good answers. The recruiter seemed cold and disengaged, he did not answer my email about interview process and did not turn on camera during the call, probably typical for big companies due to high volume of candidates.
