I visited the U.S. Bank website and submitted my cover letter and resume. I wanted to be considered as a serious candidate for the position so I handed my resume to the hiring manager at the branch location. The hiring manager liked my resume and contacted me for an in-person interview at the branch. After a 30 minute interview with the manager and her assistant manager, I was offered the position on the spot.
Advice to interested candidates:
Please keep in mind that this is a sales position. Although you will be handling money and running transactions, a successful personal banker should have strengths in communication, sales, and building relationships with clients. As an In-store banker, you will have both teller and banker responsibilities such as taking deposits/withdrawals, opening new accounts, generating/closing loans, and working with partners from small business, merchant services, ADP,and private client group. As with every sales position, you will have a quota to meet every month and quarterly (3 month period). I feel silly for saying this, but please dress professionally in a matching suit and tie. Dress, speak, and act like a personal banker and you will have a higher chance of securing the position.
