Service and Product Manager - Multimedia Interview

      Nov 25, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Nashville, TN
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at UBS (Nashville, TN) in Oct 2015

      Interview

I spoke one on one with the recruiter for this position and once it was decided that I met the criteria for the role a series of two video conferences where scheduled with the key stakeholders and hiring manager. All were overseas in the UK and Switzerland. Once it was determined that I was a good candidate for the job, I had a few more one on one conversations with the hiring manager via Lync (I was in the US, he was in Switzerland) and a few conversations with some key stakeholders - basically folks who would be my internal clients. I was offered the job and the salary and benefits negotiations were handled at the local level and were largely based on an average of my salary of previous positions - which I find fairly odd. Still, the salary was competitive and fair.

      Question 1

Most were questions about my background as it pertained to the position at hand. For example, what systems was I used to working with, what were my day to day activities in various previous positions etc. I don't recall there being many "describe a time when you were faced with a challenge and what you did to overcome it" type questions however I did get the strangest question I was ever asked in ANY interview. The person who was to be my manager (I would have 5 different ones in the first year alone) asked "If you find yourself not working for UBS in a year's time, why do you think that would be?" I told him I had no idea how to answer that question. In the end, I think what he was saying, in a subtle way is that the company was given abrupt layoffs of IT staff. Given his good nature, I believe he was trying to issue a warning. I wish I had heeded his advice.
