About a week and a half after I applied online, a nurse recruiter called me. They asked a few questions and set up an interview over the phone. Upon arrival, I spoke with HR about pay and benefits. This took about 20-30 mis. She then walked me over to the unit I applied to. I first interviewed with the department directors. They basically explained their department and asked a few basic questions about previous job experience and what interested in the position and gave me an order for a drug screen that I had to complete within 24 hours at a clinic. Nothing hard or intimidating about this part of the interview. Once this part of the interview was over, I had a peer interview with the staff nurses. In my case there were four nurses, including the charge nurse. This is where it got a little more intense. Although I prepared as much as I could have and the nurses were friendly, I found this part of the interview to be the hardest. I personally am not quick witted with words so I struggled with some of the questions. I also don't have much experience as a nurse so the scenario questions were a little more difficult. Each peer interviewer takes turns asking questions from a prewritten list of questions. Each question falls under a different category such as teamwork, communication, safety, etc. I recommend preparing yourself as much as possible.
