Interview
I submitted my application and resume online and was contacted to set up a phone interview. The phone interview described the responsibilities of the position I was interviewing for and asked reasonable questions about my previous teaching experience, how I would handle different behavior issues, and my alignment with Uncommon's core values. I was invited to an in-person interview and sample teach, and the recruiter was very flexible in scheduling a trip around my surroundings; I was also reimbursed for a train ticket and hotel expenses. Throughout the process, the recruiter was very proactive, responsive and open about answering my questions. At the end of my interview, following my sample teach, I was asked to evaluate myself immediately and also received critiques, as the interviewers wanted to see how I would respond to criticism. I was again made to feel comfortable asking questions, with the interviewer bringing me to an additional campus and inviting me to ask "off the record" questions to current staff members. It was clear they were looking for a strong fit with the organization.
