I was referred by a current employee to apply for a Director role. I applied and was given a phone screen two days later. The HR rep seemed less than enthused about interviewing me and it was clear that this was a curtesy interview despite me being very qualified. She was several minutes late to the call and was not very eager to “get to know” me. Even before the interview began I was told, “we aren’t looking to hire soon, we are just looking for the right fit so our timeline is flexible”. It made answering questions quite uncomfortable as each response I gave was met with an awkward silence, a sigh, and then a firing off of the next question. The interview lasted 25 minutes. I followed up and thanked the rep for interviewing. Several days later, I received an offer from another company and informed Uncommon about the offer and wanted to know where I stood as I was more interested in the Uncommon role. It took the rep a full day to respond and the day after (after I declined the other role) I was sent a generic email telling me I would not be moving forward in the search.

3+ hours "Immersion Day" with 5-6 people, about 30 min each. Two writing and presentation tasks based on a project plan draft. Role playing the presentation to senior leadership with some Q&A in the role. Very few traditional questions about strengths, weaknesses, previous experiences. Time felt incredibly rushed and it was unclear how I performed. At the end, a reflection question - how did you think it went? - felt loaded and it wasn't clear what the desired answer was.
