I applied online, and received an e-mail inviting me for a video interview less than 24 hours later. The video interview was a little awkward, as it's hard to gauge how much or little info to give in your responses. You are given quite a lot of time to answer each question, which made me feel nervous. I found myself babbling in a few of the responses just to fill up more time, so I'd thought I'd bombed the interview because of this. I didn't go over the practice questions, which I would recommend doing just to help get a feel for how the program works (and save yourself some babbling/confusion ). Be specific and show personality! Also, remember you're applying for a job and not a paid vacation. They're looking to hear about your work experience, not how much you love to travel. I received another e-mail about 5 days later inviting me to the face to face group interview in Newark. The flight was stand-by and paid for, but you had to get your hotel/accommodations on your own. As the interview took place in the airport, staying at a place nearby with a free shuttle is a good idea to save yourself the hassle of figuring out the subway and train systems. Plan ahead, as you do have to go through airport security to get to the interview, so make sure you can arrive to the airport an hour or two ahead of the time schedule (Newark is busy!) My scheduled time was at 9am, I got to the location at 8:45 and was the last person to arrive. There were about 30 other people , and everyone was very friendly. We were divided into groups and lead to the interview location. There we watched a short video about United and were given some info about pay and the specifics of the job. There was some time to ask/answer questions, then people were called out for one on one interviews. I was one of the first people called, and the interview was pretty straight forward. It was pretty quick, the employee interviewing me was really nice, and his demeanor helped calm my nerves. We were able to chat and joke around a bit between formal questions. All the questions they asked were here on glassdoor and the same as the ones used in the video interview. They did have you role play with an uncooperative customer, and read an in-flight announcement. The role play was a little harder for me, as I don't know the rules or procedures United use so I wasn't entirely sure how to react. I think they're just looking to make sure you're still respectful & courteous when dealing with rude behavior. After that, he brought me out and said he had a few more questions for me and wanted me to meet his co-worker. I went into another room. About 7 or 8 of us made it into the other room, and again, everyone was wonderful. The fact that everyone in that room was so sweet was actually rather intimidating because it was obvious how passionate they all were. If I were the hiring manager I'd have such a hard time choosing between them all! I really enjoyed talking with the other interviewees. I waited in that room for a while as one by one we were called out for another interview. This one they asked questions like "would you be willing to relocate?" and "do you understand how reserve works and the challenges involved?" etc. This was more nerve wracking as the men were very serious and remained expressionless. They then stepped out of the room for a moment to discuss my resume and came back with a job offer! I was obviously thrilled. Immediately I was taken to fill out some paperwork as well as complete a drug test. I saw some of the others from the 2nd room at the drug testing center and was able to exchange phone numbers etc. Overall, the entire process was about 5 hours and fairly easy. All the United employees were really lovely, welcoming and encouraging.
