      Flight Attendant Interview

      Jun 24, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Houston, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at United Airlines (Houston, TX) in Jun 2015

      Interview

First off the online application is very long. Be prepared to fill out a lot of details. They are very quick to get back to you if you mark you are willing to relocate anywhere. That is what they need because they are going to relocate you to the hub that needs you. Do no apply if you are not willing move to any of their hubs. You will be on reserve (on-call) for the next few years, commuting to another city is not even a question. They got back to me within less than 12 hours after I completed the online application to do a video interview. You have 5 days to complete the interview. Make sure you dress the part. They want someone who already looks like a flight attendant and smiles. I pulled back my hair in a bun, wore a white button down with a black suit, simple jewelry with studs and natural makeup. Never stop smiling while you record your responses and make sure your answers are positive. Highlight your strengths. Use the questions that are directed at a weakness or misunderstanding into something you overcame. After completing the video interview I was contacted again the next day to fly down to Houston for a face-to-face interview. It is typically the following week after they contact you that they will have interview days. You pick the day you want and the roundtrip airfare is free, but you have to pay for your hotel and food. I stayed at the Ramada Intercontinental East hotel. Breakfast is free and the shuttle will pick you up from the airport and transport you the following morning to the interview. Just make sure to let the front desk staff knows you need the shuttle scheduled to take you to the Training Center or PMO (Project Managers Office). It is literally 3 minutes from the hotel. I recommend leaving at 7:30am. The interviews tend to start at 8:30am. On the day of the interview do not be late! If anything be at least 30 minutes early. They want to know you are able to get to a destination early. When I got to the room where all the other people interviewing were waiting I scouted the room. There were about 30 people interviewing. Look for a group of talkative people. They want to see if you are social. Make sure to talk to as many people as possible. Work the room and be the popular kid! It gives them an idea of how you will be with a plane full of passengers with different personalities and perspectives. Keep in mind you may be sitting there for a couple of hours until they call you in. Again always, always smile! They are observing you from the minute you walk into the building. To start they have two flight attendants that introduce themselves and they go through a quick presentation of United and the interview process. They immediately collect your resumes during this portion. If you do not have at least two they will dismiss you to the airport. Next is Q&A session. Make sure you are attentive during this. Good info was provided to us about reserves, relocation, job duties of flight attendants and more. When the Q&A is done they begin calling in about 4 to 5 people in the room at a time. First you meet with one senior flight attendant. She asked me to tell her about myself, had me read a PA announcement. Make sure to not literally read it off of the card but act as if you are presenting it to passengers on a plane. Again continue smiling! She then asked a couple of questions about how I have handled difficult situations with customers and coworkers. They take notes while you talk. She asked about my background and if I had hesitations with relocation. If you want the job say you want to go wherever you are needed. Then she took me into a small room to the side. She told me I would be meeting with some of the managers with a few more questions. If you get here, you basically can consider yourself about to get the job. Rethink some of your answers on how you can make them better because they will ask them again. The managers came and pulled me aside into another room. There were two Senior Inflight Recruiters at this point. They asked the same questions and had some additional challenging ones. They said they were going to step out for a second and might have a few more questions for me. When they returned they offered me the position. I was then brought over to another Inflight Staff member. They scanned my driver’s license, gave me the info for which class I would be attending and then requested for me to have a drug screen/physical completed. I had to keep it confidential from the other interviewees on the way to the airport and sneak off to their health center. Good luck to everyone! I know it is a lot, but I hope this helps.
