I was 45 minutes early. At 8:30 on the dot, all 20 of us got moved to a room, with a PowerPoint slide going on with info on United, hubs, etc, before the recruiters came in to ask for our resumes. After that the head guy (the guy who eventually will give you the CJO), gives a speech about the job, then he asks if you have any questions. I would recommend reading all of the slides that they show before the recruiters come in, so you don't ask a question that was already covered on the slide. Remember this is the guy who will ultimately hire you at the second interview! Then after that, they all had us wait in a room, and maybe 6 recruiters called us all one by one into another room where you have your 1:1. The room is cubicle style and there are maybe 5 other interviews going on at the same time. Don't let this throw you off. Don't get distracted listening to what other people are saying. The 1:1 interview was easy for me because I thought of my own answers to every possible question I thought they might ask me. The worst mistake you can make is give a clichéd response that they know you got off the internet. A lot of people don't have a lot of experience because most of the interviewees haven't even graduated college yet, but they don't care about how impressive your story is, they only care about how you dealt with it. Don't just start rambling after they ask a question. After every question, I always looked down to gather my thoughts (don't look up, that makes you look dumb), and took maybe about 5-10 seconds before I answered. There was one that threw me off, so I asked, "can I take a minute to think about that?" and took maybe about 20 seconds. She gave me a scenario where was a man on his laptop who won't get off. They want to see if you can talk to people politely but with authority at the same time. They don't want you to harass the guest, but to politely remind them. I think they are just trying to assess your tone when talking to guests. Then she had me read the in-flight announcement, I took a minute to go over it in my head and made sure I knew how to pronounce everything, then did it out loud. I smiled a lot when I spoke to her and when I was answering questions, but I tended not to smile as much when she was asking me questions, because I thought that would look fake and weird. After, she walked me out and showed me the bus stop from the window, then asked if I would stay for more questions. Then she put me in another room where I was alone. I didn't even think about pulling out my phone. Imagine if the recruiter walked in and you were on your phone? I pretty much sat there with good posture for 15 minutes staring at the wall until I got called. The 2nd interview was with the guy who gave the presentation at the beginning and another hiring manager. He just started by going over my resume, and it was more like a conversation. They asked questions about relocation, tattoos, can you start on this date, etc. They are very nice and you feel comfortable enough to laugh with them and joke around a little bit. Even though the main guy was pretty much doing all the talking, I still tried to make eye contact with both of the guys. They asked me if I had any questions, I opened my folder to remind myself of the questions and they were impressed I already had a list. The two guys didn't leave the room to discuss, they just kind of looked at each other and the one guy asked the other guy, "everything good with you?" and the other guy responded "yup." Then the main guy stood up and put out his hand and said "We'd like to offer you a job with United and invite you to training." I stood up to shake his hand and almost burst out into tears of happiness. I think they could tell I was crying of happiness, which is ok because I'm sure it makes them feel good they made you so happy but just don't get all sloppy haha. They asked me not to tell anyone I got a CJO because you run into interviewees at the airport. Do respect that, remember you’re not hired yet. 1. Turn off your phone, don't look at it. I was shocked at how many people were texting/pulling out their phones while waiting to get called for their interview. None of those people got hired. 2. Don't go crazy on the coffee, you will potentially be sitting and waiting for a really long time and don't want to have to constantly pee or worry about having to pee once you get called in for an interview. Nor do you want to be in the bathroom when they call you in. I don't think it's a big deal if you use the bathroom but if anything, for your own emotional well-being at the interview, I think you would freak yourself out if you know they called you in but you weren't there. 3. Talk to people! I was one of the last people to be called for the 1:1 after waiting for over an hour so nerves were HIGH but we all just did breathing exercises to calm ourselves! We were all rooting for each other, and I think all of the people I bonded with at the interview got hired!
