Getting in front of HR was a hurdle as they have many applicants. Not only is HR making sure you are qualified for the position, but they really have your manger's personality in mind when selecting candidates for the next round of interviews. If you make it past HR you know you are in the running and only have a few people to compete against as they are highly selective.
