I had a phone interview that I thought went really well although it seemed a bit rushed. I was shocked when at the end, my interviewer referred to the children as "little (insert curse word here)" I did not react to her comment. I just said that no two school days are alike and that children will have good days and bad days. It felt like it was a complete waste of time, because I was later told that they weren't hiring for that position.

After submitting my application via their website about a month ago I was contacted by their "Selection Committee" to submit a writing prompt to the following question: "Consider your school, teaching, and/or internship and volunteer experiences to date: Please describe, with detail, an experience that has been especially challenging (or frustrating) for you. What is your "take-away" from that experience and how might that help you, should you join the VOICE team?"
In all honestly, after reading the interview reviews here I was scared off a bit. I was given 48hrs to respond by didn't do so. I was sent an email once again with 48hrs to submit a response. I submitted my response after the allotted time and was soon contacted to schedule a phone interview. I was asked to block off a two-hour window: "We ask you to block off the entire two-hour period, however, because we schedule multiple conversations and we can thus only provide a time range for our call."
The morning of the interview I was contacted by a young lady working for the school.She seemed to be reading off a list of questions the entire time (I could hear the paper rustling in the background during awkwardly silent periods) and wasn't very conversational no matter how hard I tried. Maybe it was just too early in the morning for the effort? Either way I was very disappointed in the end and felt as though I had blown the interview.
Two days later I received one last email from the committee: "This email is about your phone interview with VOICE Charter School – thank you for taking the time to speak with us.
"At this time, we are not able to invite you for an in-person interview at VOICE"

Interview
Month-long process; included two phone interviews, two writing samples, and finally an in-person interview. The phone interviews weren't too hard; they each had similar questions for me. I could tell that the interviewees were definitely interested in meeting me because they responded promptly after each interview. I was happy to know that I was going somewhere with them. By the time the in-person interview came along, 3 to 4 weeks had gone by. The two women that I had the phone interview with were the same ones to meet me for the in-person one. They gave me another writing sample to complete and then asked me a few questions. I answered with clarity and purpose, just as I had practiced. To be honest, I thought I gave they honest and deep responses. After I completed that interview, they asked me to wait to see if they had anything else for me. Which they did, another woman wanted to speak with me. We role-played a situation where she was the teacher and I was the TA. After my response, she gave me some feedback. I figured that we had connected as she said that my answer was one of a kind. She told me that they'll have a response within a week.
A week dragged along and they sent me an email saying they couldn't offer me the position. I felt defeated because they didn't include a reason why. They didn't have to I guess, but I felt that I deserved one at the moment. I did however gain valuable interview experience with VCS, I thank them for that! Next time, I'll buy a more comfortable suit and pursue a TA certification.
