I interviewed with Vantagepoint software in April and had two interviews for a marketing specialist position.
In the initial interview I met with the President and we discussed my background, the company, the requirements of the job and specifically what the company does.
The President was very professional and cordial. He asked a lot of questions about me, my likes and dislikes, my skills. It was clear to me that he was interested in being thorough and making sure I was a good match for his company. He also was very open about any and all questions I had, which was very refreshing.
As we closed the first interview he provided me with an assignment to create a small promotional campaign and landing page to promote the software the company sells. He asked me to study the company website and do my best to create a campaign based from that initial research. I asked him several questions about this to make sure I understood the assignment. I also scheduled a second interview in a few days where I would explain my campaign to him, and several managers of the company. I was also told that the development and production of these promotional campaigns were a means of them evaluating my skills and would be something that I would be engaged in regularly if I were to become an employee.
The assignment was challenging but not overly difficult. It took me a few hours from start to finish. It required me to think long and hard about how to concisely and effectively create a promotion that would offer value and entice a prospect to raise their hand and show that they were interested in learning more.
The hardest part of the assignment was creating a compelling headline. After I did that, the rest of the assignment pretty much wrote itself.
I tried to teach myself as much as possible about their product from studying their website and really thought long and hard about unique ways to position it for an audience.
At the second interview, I met with the several managers of the company and shared my campaign, headline, landing page and copywriting. We spent about 45 minutes discussing what they liked and they asked questions about my campaign structure and presentation. Everybody was very professional and friendly. There was on occasion some good humored playfulness thrown in which created a very relaxed environment for all to participate.
I enjoyed my meeting with all of the managers and felt very comfortable in answering all of their questions.
Since I did not have a lot of familiarity with their product, they were not looking for a FINAL work but rather were most interested in seeing how I would respond to suggestions or questions on what I had produced.
Their questions and comments showed me that my campaign was on the right track, and they simply wanted to see how I might adapt and change my promotion if other factors or understanding were introduced. We discussed their demographic, language, messaging, color choices, layout.
Overall, I enjoyed the meeting and felt that I was communicating with peers whom I would enjoy working with.
I found the company to be very cool and it looks like they have a really cool artificial intelligence software product that helps investors and traders make better trading decisions.
I am hoping for an offer and think it would be a great company to work for.
It looks like a very cool company and and cutting edge product.
