Contacted by Internal Recruiter, very pleasant and transparent conversation in which I was comfortable explaining my situation and what I find interesting. Looks like a very exciting company, technology, and training opportunity! One week later, Recruiter scheduled a phone interview with the Hiring Manager in the would-be department. Was scheduled for 30 minutes and took 50 minutes while I was on a break at my job. By far one of the most disturbing interviews I've experienced. Interviewer was very evangelical in praising himself ("They know that if I'm saying it, it's good." Basically that he has free reign because he knows everything and does no wrong.), setting an intimidating perspective of the company (Describing how people stay there longterm and have a level of commitment most people do not.), a tone of grilling, very definitive, judgmental tone. He went off about how he doesn't discriminate, "just so you know the type of person I am... What do you think of that?" Me thinking: well, it's the law, not a special praiseworthy trait.... I said, "It should be universal," then he cut me off arguing that "It's not! That's not how it is!" I replied, "I said it should be universal." It was hard to express myself without him jumping on my words. He was very belittling, patronizing overall and I would have preferred to discuss training methodologies; training feedback I have received from participants; what makes me a great trainer. I really don't know what the purpose of all his preaching was. When he ended the call by calling me "young lady," I knew this is not the environment for me. Very disconcerting. All the exasperating things he spent most of the time saying about the company and himself apply without saying in many good companies and jobs out there, including the one I already have, so.............. (Thereafter I emailed the Recruiter to decline experiencing the next stage which would have been an online panel interview / presentation by me.)
