I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Verkada (San Mateo, CA) in Aug 2021
Interview
I was contacted by the recruiting time almost two months after submitting my application. First interview was with HR representative, the next two interviews I met members of the team and was asked a round of technical questions. These were not too hard and the people I met were quite friendly and supportive. The problem came with the fourth interview with the manager. He didn't even take up the full scheduled hour, instead the interview questions were quite shallow. He turned me down on grounds of "lack of experience", even though that wasn't a requirement in the original job ad and I had two years + master's degree. I felt he started the interview with his mind already set on rejecting my application.
I was then offered a more "entry level" position as a Tech Support Engineer, for a lower salary of course. I was made to have two more interviews: the first with another HR representative which was really friendly, and then with the manager of the other area. Again, I felt the manager had rejection already in mind before the interview started. His questions and his way of interviewing (corporal language, intonation) were obviously meant to make me lose my patience, and he asked down to an absurd level of detail. He asked the same questions over and over in spite of me giving a clear answer. I was rejected a day later without any kind of feedback (the company policy allows no feedback).
Overall, I had a relatively positive experience with the team, but I have a lot to say about the managers. I think they would benefit from a flatter hierarchy. I felt a whole month was wasted in this process, and that they played with my expectations.
