Applied and received the initial Online Assessment (OA), which apparently only about 10% of applicants get. Passing that led to a recruiter call that was pretty great. The recruiter was very nice and gave me hope for the company, especially after the CEO tweet incident and all the horrible past interview reviews online. The next round was the tech screen, where the interviewer literally just started with, "I'm [Name] and am a dev, introduce yourself and why Virtu." Then we talked about my research experience, but she didn't understand the basis of the research itself and kept asking me why I would even start with this specific question. It was similar to asking a chemist why they do research in a lab, like what's so specific about a lab. After failing to understand anything for 20 minutes, she opened the HackerRank link where I went through a coding problem in Python. Over the course of the next 40 minutes, not a single useful comment came out of her mouth, she only had condescending and snide remarks. When I was making some silly Python syntax errors and jokingly said I have more experience in C++ for DSA coding, she just said, "but this is Python." Then for the nail in the coffin, when I was confused and started writing redundant code, she asked me if I "vibecode a lot" LOL. I was so confused since it threw me off, so I told her I do use LLMs for working on projects and tech stacks that I'm not familiar with, like rn I'm using Snowflake for an intern project for some market data. She then thought I was clueless again and snidely asked, "a database of snowflakes?" Atp I was so ready to end the interview. I couldn't submit the code because of a single Python syntax error where she again refused to help, and at the 58th minute she just says, "I have to go" and left LOL. Mind u I'm a 3rd-year undergrad.
