After reading these reviews I was shocked to hear it play out just now. After going through the more technical part(s) with a recruiter WPEngine called me (after 1 reschedule on their part). I was waiting for the technical part to begin. Nope.
WPEngine: I see you were last with company XYZ, what was your title / role there?
Me: Yes, Senior Linux Administrator. I was responsible for... At this point I started reading my resume, verbatim. Gauging reaction, could only hear WPEngine typing. I continued just to read my resume like a robot. Then stopped.
Silence.
WPEngine: Ok, thank you. Before that you were at company ABC, what was your title / role there?
Me: I started reading resume again thinking it would be obvious. Then I stopped mid sentence.
Silence after they finished typing.....
WPEngine: Ok, thank you. Before that you were at....
Me: No thank you, this isn't the right culture nor fit for me. Goodbye.
Dice, monster, linkedin, indeed, the ladders and human recruiters all do quite well parsing my resume to submit to potential companies well before this stage and by the time I speak with a company it's highly technical and quite competitive.
Maybe these reviews jaded me, sure. If you want to be treated like a number in a start up, apply right now. You can have my seat.
