The recruiter reached out to me on Linkedin multiple times to get me interested in the opportunity for a Technical Lead and then after talking to me asked me to complete a “small coding project” that the recruiter said should take around 3 hours. The project actually was quite large, not defined very well, required responsive behavior and unit tests and I could see upfront that it would take at least 10-12 hours. I still completed the project and submitted it in good faith. Heard back saying that I didn’t quite hit the mark for a Technical lead with no specific feedback and got the same generic answer once I followed up with them.
While they obviously have the right to proceed with/reject whoever they like they need to be more professional and show respect for the candidate’s time after asking them to invest so much of time upfront and then not provide specific feedback.
