Overall the interview process was very casual. One of the least stressful interviews I've ever had. The people are amazing, scheduling was flexible, and overall I felt very good about the process. HR was very responsive and one of the best experiences I've had dealing with the hiring process.
I had a 1:1 interview with the direct manager, and then had a series of panel interviews with various members of the team I would be part of. Questions were all what you would expect, though it was more focused on me as a person and my experience than specific skills. WP Engine is clearly hiring for personality and culture fit over hard skill-sets and experience requirements, though you still need to meet the job recs and have relevant experience. I have a non-standard education and background and they were really receptive to that. A background with WordPress is also highly valued.
Overall the interviews were largely conversational. There was a short simple skill/thought process exercise. Nothing you could prepare for, that would be highly specific to the position that aimed gauged critical thinking and problem solving skills for a very focused problem.
