      Sales Associate Interview

      Dec 31, 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Strongsville, OH
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Walmart (Strongsville, OH) in May 2015

      Interview

I always try to prepare myself before an interview by going over my strengths and weaknesses pertaining to the job, since that's what I expect to be asked about. I quickly realized that none of that mattered because they don't ask you any of that...or maybe not exactly in those words. First was paperwork. They start by bringing you in and having you go over your application, making sure everything is correct, initialing next to practically everything, quickly going over a paper of what two documents would be acceptable to bring in if you are hired (ex: ID and social security card) and signing a paper saying you're probation period is the first 90 days and you can be fired for any reason. Next, they go over the job description. Let you know what position they want to hire you for. By the way, my position in the interview changed from the position I was actually called in to interview for. They tell you the details of the position, let you know what time of day you would be needed and ask if you're alright with it. Then the actual interview process starts. Like I said, don't expect to be listing off your strengths and weaknesses. They read off about five big long statements and want you to give real life examples on how you handled these things. If they tell you thanks and let you go, I'm sorry to say you didn't get the job. If they ask if you have time to stick around for a second interview then you still have a chance and will be meeting with an assistant manager next. They do the same type of deal with reading off the long statements and you giving your examples, you just don't have to do as many as the first interview. If they like what you say they'll let you know that they want to contact your references next. Depending on who interviews you, some may contact your references right then and there, some may have you come back in on another day for your job offer. If you're coming on another day, make sure you let your references know they'll be calling and to answer their phones or else you'll have to wait for them to call Walmart back and speak to them before the next step. After they get ahold of your two references they will have you fill out the information for your background check and give you the information to take your drug screening. When this happens you have 24 hours to take your drug test. They usually say it takes about 7-10 days to get your information back from both places and when they do they will contact you. I got called 4 days after my job offer/drug screening and told that they wanted to schedule orientation for the next day. But I understand that some places may not be doing an orientation for 2 weeks. It depends on a lot of different things. If you don't get a call in a week I would call them.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

(Not an actual question, just close example) Walmart employees are taught that customer service is a must, but sometimes a customer can become disgruntled and unhappy. Give one example where you provided help (i.e. Customer Service) to an unhappy person

Solid and very well informative process. It was straightforward and well put together. I really enjoyed the people that I interacted with and ultimately chose another route due to time constraints.
