I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Wayfair (Berlin) in Apr 2016
Interview
I applied for a job online in March 2016 and I got a response the day after from Antonia, recruiter in Wayfair Berlin.
We then scheduled a brief phone call where she asked me about my profile, my previous experiences and my desire to join Wayfair. She also gave me some information about Wayfair as well as a rough description about the kind of projects and missions I could be working on if I joined. The phone call also included a couple of easy and straight-forward technical questions, probably to filter out irrelevant applicants before going to the next stage.
The next stage was for me a technical-oriented Skype interview with two software engineers. We had a conversation about my current and previous jobs, the technical environments and technologies I wasfamiliar with etc. They also ask me a couple of questions about general web technologies. Then we had a very interesting problem-solving live interaction to test my debugging skills. They basically told me that something went wrong and asked me step by step what I could do to figure out the reason and fix it. Then there was a live-coding exercise with code understanding and little tasks assignment.
I was finally kindly invited for an onsite interview in Berlin for the last interviews. I met the engineers I skyped with as well as other ones. There was first an even deeper technical interview for almost 2 hours which included code reading, discussion about software architecture, MVC pattern, website performance, website security and SQL queries. All of that with either some code to discuss about or some live coding to be done. The technical interview was very interesting as it went along a defined scenario but always let some room for other on-the-fly technical discussions. I then met other engineers for an interview oriented on the cultural fit. I was asked what I expect as working environment, relationship with coworkers and general work processes. Then I was invited to ask any questions I had on this side.
I finally met Antonia for some other job related exchanges and questions, before going back home.
The day after I had a call from Antonia offering me a job!

Overall ok but the coding test environment is like a black box that you just can’t debug. If you solve by debugging, you’re doomed. LeetCode won’t really prepare you for this.
