Highly political and ambiguous interview experience. I do not recommend this company to anyone. Before doing the interview, I already learned that Wayfair is highly political and emphasize consulting experience rather than real industry experience. This turned out to be all true even just through the interview process. During the interview, I asked the associate director what is the level of this position, his response is "we have not decided it yet, it all depends on your ability". I also asked what is the scope and the main function of this position, his response is "I do not like defining the responsibilities of a position, there are so many things to work on at Wayfair, so there is no clear way to say it." While I understand each position is cross-functional and there is no clear cut scope, I still can see this associate director tried every bit to give an ambiguous answer and avoid saying anything concrete. This is the common methodology adopted by people who are very shrewd in a highly political working environment. I thought the whole interview process went well but did feel there is a lack of passion on their end. I was passionate and energetic to tell my story, but they did not seem to be interested. Especially the 2nd round, the interviewer dwelled too much on what is my current job responsibility and did not even ask other relevant questions. However, the most ridiculous person is their recruiter. After my on-site interview, the recruiter called me to say they decided to not move forward with my application and the reason is they want to hire a more "Senior" person. When I ask him what does he mean by more senior, he said he does not know. Before I say anything, he hung up already. What a jerk. Overall I do not recommend this company to anyone as you can already see this company is highly political and they do not even bother to listen to people's opinions and voices. To my surprise, both the associate director and senior ops are consultants right before joining Wayfair, so it really shows they like consultants. I do not really see much visibility of people with real industry background.
