A Wayfair talent scout contacted me via LinkedIn regarding this role and I was happy to go ahead with it, the role seemed awesome.
We then scheduled an initial phone call.
The call itself was 30 mins, of which the role was described thoroughly. Then I was asked 2 questions, the usual "Tell me about yourself". This was followed by an explanation on how data is used a Wayfair and then the question "Can you tell me of a situation when you used data to make a decision?"
He then went over to explain the rest of the process. He explained that it would be a few more interviews, containing case studies. Knowing the Amazon interview process from a friend I remarked rather jokingly "not as bad as Amazon".
This was the only moment in the interview when he became fully present saying "Oh, you are interviewing with Amazon"? I should have maybe left him in that belief. Instead I clarified and he said almost a bit touchy "well, we have the same process as Amazon".
All in all I found the call went well, apart from him being very textbook and distanced. I tried to build a rapport, he worked from Berlin, which is my hometown, but he didn't react at all to that. He behaved a bit like a robot.
2 days later I got a mail, automated, not from him anymore, that thanked me for my time and let me know that they're moving forward with other candidates.
