The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Wayfair
Interview
Applied and spoke with a recruiter who threw some biases about where I currently work. After countering with a friendly retort, he thought I would be a great fit and scheduled a call with the hiring manager, and also gave me a prep call. All good, right?
So interview date comes, nobody calls. I reach out to the recruiter, no answer.
2 weeks later, the same recruiter asks me for a few times to speak with the hiring manager, no explanation or apology. Figuring this is an automated email I reply saying I'm happy to but will he actually show up given the last time?
Radio silence
From a big company like Wayfair this was very unprofessional

Question 1
Coming from company X (very large company) you probably aren't used to being customer centric. How would you make sure you keep a customer focus at Wayfair?
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Wayfair (Bengaluru) in Jan 2026
Interview
6 long interviews.
1. Director of Product - Really good interview. Very knowledgeable and streamlined. Based out of US
2. Head of Product - One of the best interviews I have attended till date. She possibly had the best product knowledge I have seen in a leader in such a short discussion. Based out of US
3. Engineering manager - Decent generic interview. Based out of Bangalore, India
4. AI/ML head - Pretty good interview. Knowledgeable and helpful. Based out of Bangalore, India
5. HRBP Head, India - Really nice, casual discussion. Based out of Bangalore, India
6. Director of Engineering (Also the hiring manager) - This is where the hell breaks loose. The guy (Senthil something, Building Martech Engineering for Wayfair) provides a positive feedback during the interview and still chooses to reject me. His words - "you've answered the questions impressively". Opinionated right from the start. Seemed like he already made up his mind not to hire me.
He gave me a feedback that my previous experience doesnt align the best with the role by looking at my resume. That should have been done at the start itself right? If he was the hiring manager, how did he decide to go ahead in the first place. Dumb move, IMO.
If this guy was so important, why did they need to waste 8 people's time? He could've taken a decision right at the start of the interview process.
One of the best product interviews and still one of the worst overall experiences.
