Sales Associate - Entry Level Interview

      Mar 24, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at WeddingWire in Aug 2015

      Interview

Quite unimpressive. I only had a phone screening. The first phone call was pushed back twice because the recruiter forgot to call both times (after setting up times via email, stating she would call me). She said "um" and "like" enough for me to start tallying in my notes. I'm a millennial as well, but I felt like I was talking to a teenager. I answered all of her questions; I felt confident since I had a lot of cold calling experience and plenty of customer interactions during my time at a previous job. Keep in mind, this was entry level. I'm a career changer with a masters degree, but I know I neeedd to start at the bottom somewhere. When it came time for me to ask questions about the position, she didn't understand me. I asked basic things, like what was the ratio of cold calls to warm calls. She didn't get that, so I asked again what percentage of the time would I be dealing with existing customers and what percentage of the time would I be cold calling. Then she just made something up I think. Maybe it was a bad question, but I wanted to know if my entire day would be spent cold calling without sounding disinterested. She was annoyed after that and I could tell so every other question I asked (which were much more simple after that) provoked abrupt, one works answers. I was really put off. I wouldn't go to them as Customer now. I had been laid off, job searching for a few weeks, a few interviews under my belt with decent offers, but I turned down because ultimately I didn't see a future. This wasn't my first rodeo with a recruiter. She was the worst.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Nothing. She asked me about my background and that was it. I didn't get a single question where I could highlight any skills I had, which probably would have gotten me in the door. She also didn't take a second to breathe in between sentences and I could barely undersunderstand her between the "um," "likes" and speed talking. It was hard to spin anything in my favor like I Normally could have.
