I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Whirlpool Corporation (Benton Harbor, MI) in Oct 2013
Interview
Talked to the recruiters at the career fair and was signed up for an interview on the spot. (NOTE: The recruiters get tired of hearing the same spiels and questions. I could see the one I was talking to start to get disinterested until I started talking about why I specifically was interested in Whirlpool and the WERLD program. Then her eyes lit up.)
The interview was about a week later on campus with 2 interviewers (one HR and one engineer). Started by asking about why I was interested in Whirlpool and what my career goals were then went into 4 behavioral questions. The whole interview took about 35 minutes. The interviewers were really nice and it was pretty low pressure.
Heard back via phone call about 2-2.5 weeks later extending the offer.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
My experience from a bunch of intern interviews (Whirlpool being no exception) is that "Why us?" and "What questions do you have?" are usually the most important questions. Obviously it's important to have some good examples ready for behavioral questions but all the candidates have decent experiences and many times (this is definitely the case for me) they'll have better GPAs.
The easiest way to set yourself apart is to convey that you REALLY want to work for them. They will tell you why they're passionate about the work they do and they love it if you show that you're passionate about the opportunity to work there. Have reasons like specific projects, their culture, or the impact of the work the company does. Don't count on your resume to set you apart, show that you're personable and passionate.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Whirlpool Corporation in Oct 2024
Interview
It was pretty smooth. Had recruiter reach out to me for interview, it was just Behavorials and lasted about 45 minutes. She then forwarded me to final round with product manager and a lead engineer. Even tho I was CS, both my interviewers were mechanical which meant I couldn't really connect beyond a surface level regarding my CS knowledge with them. Now granted they were just Behavorial questions so fault is mostly on me for not doing too great. final round was thursday, got the rejection following monday.

How would you apply machine learning algorithms to improve a whirlpool product?
Applied from my college's career fair and received an email invitation to a screening interview with an HR rep a few weeks later. Found out I was moving to the next round at the end of that interview. Second round was with principle engineers and they mostly asked behavioral questions. Everyone was very nice.
