      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Wolfspeed in Mar 2011

      Interview

The phone interview was very short. It was hardly 15 minutes. I was called to the company immediately. I gave a short presentation and all questions were reserved for the 1:1 interviews with 7 persons. The individual interviews were very detailed. I was baffled when I was asked the model number of one the tools I use and the size the screws. The lunch was the worst part of the interview. They bombarded me with questions from all sides and they kept sharing some inside jokes. Towards the end of the day, I was taken aback when I was told "you should be willing to unlearn the stuff you have learnt through your PhD."

      Application

The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Wolfspeed in Sep 2010

      Interview

I was contacted for phone intereview first and got the basic questions for my motivation & background experience. Then later, they invited me to NC for the formal interview. The main on-site interview include 15 min presentation and follow up Q&A. They did not like the candidate runs over the time for the presentation. After that, immediately, it follows with one-on-one interview with many managers and senior staff in different groups. They have many opening, but hard to find people to fill the spot. It took the whole day including lunch and dinner to go over the process. They treat the lunch and dinner as the interview time. Do not take easy on these events. The most mind boggling for me is that there are some guys in the interview process are very arrogant. Simply, you can tell they never work any other company before, they are afraid the new hired to take their spots. The worst is that these guys try not to meet you there for 30 min limited time, instead they scheduled the follow up phone interview and keep dragging you in order to show up themselves. These guys can not work with any one, but work above any one. Other than that, other posts here have mentioned the itnerview questions.

      Durham, NC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Wolfspeed (Durham, NC) in Feb 2011

      Interview

I have read the previous posts on this site before the interview and after my interview, I will have to totally agree about what other people told about the whole process. With regards to technical questions, I felt that the interview was not difficult at all. They kept asking basic engineering/mechanical related questions (like experience with fixing things at your home/work, working with certain equipment etc etc). Throughout the interview, they stress about how aggressive the company is and they give clear hints about working crazy hours. Some of my interviews with senior managers got canceled and I had an opportunity to talk with junior engineers. For the salary that they would pay and the crazy work hours, I would never take up such a job that has no work/life balance. I decided right away that I would not work here and after what I experienced at lunch, I totally made up my mind. All the senior level managers and the R&D director took me out to lunch and they still kept asking questions that were totally unrelated to anything I have done before or for that matter anything related to the job I was interviewing for. They basically make you feel that your past work was worth nothing (for a PhD) and there is nothing interesting/challenging about your research. The managers and the director were talking about inside jokes, the past weekend activities and lot of other nonsense, which I felt was really stupid. Overall, the interviewers were very rude and arrogant. Their compensation is weak for the hours they expect you to work. The signs were all clear - A BIG NO NO!!!!!!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1) How many barbers you need in a city of 1 Million people(questions expected if you one reads other posts before his/her interview) ? 2) Have you worked on a equipment/measurement for 300 times in a month?
