The interview process was a bit different from what I was used to, I had a positive chat with the technical recruiter who said their colleague would contact me to schedule the next interview, to talk to the team in the following days. Two weeks later, I had to follow up about it and messaged them. I managed to get a reply and got an invite to an interview with the team (I asked if this was a case study presentation, a chat, design exercise etc, so I could be prepared, but didn't get an answer). I decided to prepare myself on my own as the role seemed interesting anyway. The interview was ok, I got to talk to other designers who were super nice, but I the hiring manager never showed up. It really felt like they just wanted to complete the interview schedule. Two weeks and a half later (no surprisingly) I got the generic no feedback email about not moving forward with my application.

I applied at Workvivo (part of Zoom) (Ireland) for a Product Designer role. After a positive conversation with a Zoom recruiter, I got instantly booked for a call with a team of interviewers including the hiring manager. The session comprised a conversation plus a portfolio presentation. Despite having 10 years of experience in design, research, and accessibility, I got told that I am not a strong candidate. Recently I found out that the winning candidate is a native Irish with 2 years of experience. The point is - if you are a foreigner, it is extremely likely you won't be considered.
