I applied online through their website/jobvite. It took approximately one month after I applied before I got an email from the recruiter. Rather quick turnaround.
A lot of back and forth just to schedule the initial phone interview. The questions were rather basic. Standard interview questions that you receive in all interviews. Strengths and Weaknesses, Goals, where you see yourself in the future, and why do you want to leave your current job. Nothing tricky. It was conversational. Like he was trying to figure out if I was going to fit in at Twitter and if I was likable.
After that I waited approximately two weeks for another email stating that they wanted to schedule a second phone interview. I submitted my availability. Then it changed and they decided to bring me in for an onsite interview. The recruiter emailed me that I was going to receive a schedule and a prep call from her before the interview. But I never heard from her the day before and she didn't respond to my emails.
For the onsite interview, I met with four persons. The schedule had me meeting with 8 but after 4 it was lunch time and the coordinator came into tell me that they were too busy to finish the interviews and may have to bring me back again to finish. Annoying, since I took a vacation day from work, paid for parking, and didn't know what else to do with the rest of my day.
Before this I thought it was going well and I had no indication that it would be cut short because of something I said. I checked around with friends who interviewed there for legal positions and this has happened to them too. So either I bombed the first four interviews, or they just don't have their sh** together.
The main concern that I had during the interviews was with the women. You know when someone walks through the door and you see that look and know this women is judging me. It is that competition felt between women, like uh oh 'insecurities' just walked in the door and she is dowdy and disheveled and doesn't like the way I look. All very pleasant and nice but whatever you say about qualifications or experience it doesn't matter because they just don't like you.
The onsite interview questions were again standard. Nothing out of the ordinary and all very straight forward. They were just having a casual conversation about their lives and day. I got the impression that is was all assessing whether or not I would fit into the twitter culture.
I followed up with the standard emails thanking them for their time. I had to send it through jobvite since they don't give you their last names or email address. A little pretentious but fine, I don't know how many people they are bringing in for multiple interviews who would annoy them with emails.
I got an automatically delivered VM informing me that they are going ahead with other candidates.
Summary, they aren't a start up anymore, but everything about their interview process felt juvenile. They lacked polish and maturity. The recruiter, the coordinator, the interviewers, it was like they were all just learning how to do their jobs. They felt inexperienced and they were making it all up as they go. I think they do a disservice to themselves by not exploring candidates that bring experience and age to the table. If everyone is just like you, then how do you grow and mature? Everyone I interviewed with had been doing their jobs for less than four years and before that none of them were even in the legal field. I can't complain about the recruiter because she picked my resume out of probably a huge pile of applications. I think she is overwhelmed and recruiting dept is understaffed.
