The HR screening process was normal. She asked a few questions reguarding the job description just to double check that I do indeed have the qualifications. The job description says forklift licence preferred and I double checked with her that it is not required, just a note. It was also mentioned that repeated lifting of up to 20lbs is required (which is not at all a problem for me).
The problem was with the hiring manager (the micro team lead) that I met with the next day. At this point, I should mention that I am a woman - it was pure discrimination with no actual interview questions. She asked, "have you even read the job description?" Of course I had. Despite the fact that I have met most of the qualifications and have experience, she went on to mention that the job is mostly cleaning the incubation room and pelletizing, which I am "overqualified for", and it is a "manly job", and her "heart hurts thinking about you lifting and cleaning all the time". She also mentioned I will rarely be doing any of the other things the job description mentions. I assured her many times that I do not mind because I have worked in the past that requires lifting and cleaning all the time in the lab. This is when she tells me the forklift is involved even though the job description and the HR said it was not required, but only preferred. The hiring manager pretty much just kept repeating the same things about lifting and cleaning all the time. She recommended me to apply for another position in the company which she thinks is more suited for me, but after this kind of interview and discrimination, I don't think I will be doing that.
