      Content Marketing Manager Interview

      Apr 21, 2021

      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Yardzen in Apr 2021

      Interview

Kind of a joke, to be quite frank. Found the role in LinkedIn's job listings (which had only been up two days by the time I found it), applied, was contacted by a recruiter late the next day, and asked to provide my availability for an intro call. The next morning, after receiving an invite to the call (which wasn't emailed to the same address I'd been communicating by, but to an alternate email address that I'm unclear as to how they discovered), I replied "yes" to the invite and emailed the recruiter asking for clarification of a detail about the upcoming call that I noticed in the invite. Shortly afterward, I received an automated cancellation email for the call, then an email from the recruiter saying Yardzen had decided to move forward with another candidate and that their timing was off. Utterly bizarre. I don't understand how there could be such misalignment between the recruiter and hiring manager, or why they decided to move forward with another candidate before ever even speaking with me despite the recruiter claiming I had a "very strong" background. Total waste of time and a horrible first impression of this company. The only other interview for Yardzen at the time of writing accuses the company of poor treatment of a candidate on the basis of race; while I'm a minority, I think it's worth noting that I don't feel this experience was rooted in discrimination or "microaggressions," but in what appears instead to be a troubling trend of a lack of preparedness and unprofessionalism on the part of today's recruiters.

Thank you for providing us with feedback on your experience with our recruitment practice. At Yardzen, we are striving to build our culture around open feedback and always welcome it as an opportunity for us to learn & grow. I want to acknowledge that it sounds like we could have done better at providing more clear feedback on why we decided not to move forward with your application. I’m sorry that this reflected a lack of preparedness and unprofessionalism of our team. Building an amazing team should start with an amazing candidate experience, and we are considering this as a learning opportunity for us to improve for future hiring. If you’d like to provide any additional feedback on your experience, please reach out to us directly at recruiting@yardzen.com. We’d also welcome a phone call to learn more about how we can improve moving forward. -The Yardzen Team
