      Sales Executive Interview

      Oct 18, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Yelp (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2018

      Interview

First off you spend $47 in parking in downtown Chicago for two hours if you want to get there on time and if you have to take the metro train it’s $217 for a monthly pass if you get hired in or decide to accept the position. Nobody has said that, so thank me later...But the interview process goes like this: phone interview with a nice lady that sets up time for an interview with an 1:1 manager. You go inside after a security clearance (as they call it) you go on tour and see all the free food and coffee you can have if you work there (yay, I guess), then you go into this room and look at a dry, boring video of what your day to day life would be like at yelp. Then they ask you take aways from the video. After that you go into a room with a hiring manager he is very overweight (lay off the free food buddy) young, prejudice pervert (college girls beware) that only wants to hire someone he can slob on. You are then told you have to do 80-100 cold calls a day to get 1 owner on the phone and try to sell a yelp business package. He had me role play about meeting an owner of a pizza place and you have to sell him on a yelp package. I’m wondering why would I be selling a guy a yelp package on a train, but anywho. It is really a waste of time.... And the worst interview I’ve ever been on and it is definitely an entry level position for a circus. I would never ever want to work for yelp. But I do love the yelp app, thou...

      Interview

The process moved fast, which made sense for sales. A recruiter screen, one call with the hiring manager, and that was the extent of it. The questions were standard: territory experience, quota attainment, pipeline methodology. Nothing that required much preparation. The people I spoke with were professional and the turnaround on scheduling was quick. For the time it took, it was a low-friction experience.

I was tasked with role-playing a sales call with one manager, taking feedback, then another manager. There was a first round phone interview as well that was short, maybe 30mins max.
