I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Yelp (San Francisco, CA) in Dec 2010
Interview
I submitted my resume to Yelp via their website for the Account Executive position. I was set up for a phone screening by one of their recruiters a few days later.
The phone screen last about ten minutes and was quite simple. I was asked questions like:
-What do you know about Yelp?
-What have you heard about Yelp in the media?
-Why should we hire you?
-Why do you want to do sales?
I didn't hear back from them for about a week but I eventually got a 1:1 formal interview set up.
The interview was supposed to last about an hour and I was told iId meet 2-3 sales managers for 20 mins each.
The first one I met was my initial phone screener.
-She asked me again why I wanted to do sales.
-She instructed me to sell myself to her
-We did a roleplay where she played a salon owner and instructed me to ask several open-ended questions
The second sales manager asked me to describe a time in which I didn't meet a supervisors expectations and how I handled it
-She asked me three words my manager would describe me as and three words my friends would describe me as.
Those were the most significant questions I can remember.
I never met with the third sales manager and I'm not sure if it was because we ran out of time or they were no longer interested after two.
This felt like a pretty straight forward interview and I felt good after it, I'm a little surprised I didn't get an offer.
