Started with an initial phone interview with the head of customer loyalty. He was not into chatting, got right into asking questions. Not your typical interview questions, asked a lot of about my opinions of content, where does good content live in the age of buzz feed?, etc. Talked quickly about money, told me they were looking for someone in the 50-60K range which seemed really low but said I was open to continuing (with the hopes of a negotiation later on). Was given an exhaustive writing test - definitely the most time-consuming one I've ever been given! Was brought in for an in-person interview where questions were fired at me and another employee took notes. Asked back for a 2nd interview where they framed it as a "working session." This interview ended up being more of a brainstorming quiz where i had to come up with ideas on the spot without much participation from the interviewer. It was awkward and a bit of a turnoff. Then I didn't here anything for a few weeks so I followed up. The head of customer loyalty casually emailed me to say that he didn't think I was interested in the position because they couldn't meet my salary requirements. This was INCREDIBLY confusing because we hadn't talked money since the very first phone interview. I then requested a quick chat with him, thinking he would apologize for wasting my time and making me jump through so many hoops to just drop me in the last round of interviews. He was really cold, unapologetic and rude. He basically said that he was looking for someone in that exact price range and that he would gladly take someone who would take even less if he could find it. I found this to be really upsetting as I spent a lot of time and energy interviewing for this company. Turns out they just care about being cheap- never a good sign.
