Interview
I applied through the website directly and got a call I guess in a week from the recruiter to arrange a time for round 1.
Round 1 was a basic profiling and it ended by assuring me that I would get a notification in 5 to 7 days. Waited 5 to 7 days, No reply therefore I sent out follow up emails.
No reply again and then I decided to send it through their HR inquiry and got a reply the next day. I was told I had been contacted but I never received any email. So we arranged for the technical round 2. This round was easy and was basically an exchange of science between the two scientist of the company and myself. I would say I did well in this round( I know it when I do bad) and the scientists were comprehending the Science well.
The very next day , I got a standard reject!! Shocked because it went well and I was told that I will be getting a feedback which I didnt. Also, I was told by the interviewers that I should expect a reply in two weeks. The rejection after round 2 was quick (just over 24 hours).

Some question about my research which I presented-technique, why I did it and stuff
Too many people staring directly at their laptops and typing furiously as I answered their questions. Kind of the opposite of doing what they should be doing, which is making eye contact. They were obviously told by management that they needed to keep track of all my responses, but it was very unnerving.

Interview
My interview experience with Zymergen is the most bizarre one. For all the positions at Zymergen I applied, I received calls from HRs, even though I felt some of them are not interested in me at all (Maybe they are required to call a number of people each day). I had a chance to talk to the hiring manager in one position and did a panel interview with the group. The interview experience was fine, but did not get any feedback from HR or hiring manager for 2 months. I felt the HR is not being professional or respectful.
Gave a presentation to the team, fielding several questions. Met with several scientists and directors, discussing how I would have workstreams. Received a tour of the labs and work areas.
