Interview
I met Athenahealth recruiters at a college career fair my university hosted. After a good chat about myself and the company I was offered an interview the next day (standard for this career fair).
It was mostly technical and I was given a fairly simple hackerrank problem to work through. As is common with code during an interview it was more there to allow the interviewer to see how I worked than to test my coding abilities (although I imagine if I couldn't write anything in my chosen language that would have been a deal breaker). No need to impress them by picking a complex or obscure language I did it in python and that worked just fine. I completed the challenge fairly quickly and we went on to some problem extensions.
Later that week I was called to schedule an interview day where they would pay for my travel out to their Waltham office. This didn't end up happening due to COVID-19 and I was able to reschedule at a time that worked for me for a series of online interviews.
Again, about a week later, maybe a bit less I was contacted with an offer for an internship which I accepted.

To put it in one sentence, Athenahealth’s interview process is significantly flawed and out of touch. Expect 4.5-6 HOURS of rigorous coding round interviews where you must complete fully optimized working solutions. There’s no care for how, or why you solved the problem. Just get every test case passing, and you’ve got a job. It’s clear this company is more keen on hiring a leetcoder, rather than trying to identify real talent. Other than the HM interview, no other opportunities are given to meet your potential coworkers. Expect to hop on a call with a stone wall of an interviewer, and have no intro’s or icebreaker. This was probably the biggest red flag of all.
Do better athenahealth..
