I can't think of one specifically that stood out as being difficult or unexpected but I think some of the questions during the exercise took me surprise

Questions were perhaps too easy. A few technical questions about architecture, SSO, Web app tiers, etc. but no challenging questions like "tell me about a project that failed." Both interviews were perhaps suspiciously soft.
Most unexpected from other Solution Architect positions is the emphasis on doing rather than talking. Be prepared. If you are interested in working at this amazing company, you must be prepared to demonstrate excellent critical thinking and consulting skills.

Asked general questions about how the app worked, how you designed it.

Explain the garbage collection process in .net.
Product management through a few trick questions my way, that did not have a real answer in an effort to get me to lie, or embellish the truth. While it was a bit confusing at the time, we later discussed it and the rationale was to ensure RES maintained their core values especially in sales by not hiring dishonest people.
