Machine Learning Engineer Interview Questions

Companies rely on machine learning engineers to help design and improve the systems that allow their software to improve on its own, rather than being specifically programmed. During the interview process, be prepared to be tested heavily on both computer science and data science knowledge with an emphasis on recognizing patterns and trends. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field will be required.

1st round: Semi-technical interview with hiring manager. We went through one of my past projects on github related to object detection using neural networks. Asked me questions related to deeper vs broadre neural networks, vanishing gradients, their remedy, loss functions, training and validation curves, etc. Overall, nice interview for me. I was selected for final round. They sent me a coding task related to machine learning on which their was working, and gave me 10 days to work on it. Additionally they sent me a research paper from Valeo, and asked me to prepare a presentation for final interview. Final Round: There were 8 interviewers in total, including the authors from the research paper. Interview was structured into two parts: Coding challenge discussion for 1 hour, and research paper presentation and Q/A for 1 hour. Interview was super technical, with questions in presentation round about future ideas for the paper. Even though it was an involved discussed, I thought my interview went good enough.

Machine learning basics multiple algorithms basic neural network DNN , cnn, RNN, Talk into details about my most recent project and also asked some basic ML concept. Then let me describe how to solve a specific NLP problem. Lastly give a medium level DP algorithm problem Pre-screen with hiring manager who found me on LinkedIn. Two phone screens, then on-site with job talk. I was surprised that I didn't pass the first phone screen. The interviewer was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable. The overall process was pretty slow-- slow to schedule, then slow to tell me I hadn't passed.
