1) Video clip shared with the team: Walk us through the onboarding flow of your favorite app or platform (in other words, get us set up with an account and show us key features and functionality) in 8 minutes or less. Begin the video by explaining the “essence” of the company behind the app. Factor the essence into 3 and display these on a slide before going into the presentation. The factoring should have the feel of being “necessary and sufficient”: what makes this company this exact company? For example, suppose I were a huge fan of McDonalds. Here’s how I might factor McDonalds into its “essence”: “(1) Global real estate behemoth, (2) Cost-advantaged supply chain, (3) Dependable (burger) fast food experience”. Notice how this can only be McDonalds and not any other fast-food burger company (try it!)—that’s how you’ll know you’ve captured the full and unique essence. 2)Internal memo written to me specifically (Mohan): Think of a friend, family member, or acquaintance that’s going through a personal growth challenge right now (ok to make up a name to maintain their anonymity). Can you bring me into the problem at a fidelity where I could plausibly make a recommendation for what this person should do next? 3)Email to our customers after an incident: Since we are working with a very novel type of product (agentic AI), there will likely be situations where Trellis has behaved unexpectedly for some reason. In this exercise, you will write an email to our customers who were affected by the issue below. Feel free to make up details where necessary to make the email as plausible as possible, but do specify clearly in your draft what assumptions you've made. Fictional scenario: On July 5, 2024, Trellis experienced a system error due to an unexpected interaction between two AI modules. The first AI module was the Workflow Engine, which determines the next best interaction for any given (student + school) pairing at this moment in time. The second AI module was the Vault, where schools store their training data to improve the behavior and knowledge of their AI recruiter. The interaction was problematic because the University of Chicago had uploaded outdated information into their Vault without realizing it, with one document describing in depth the Applied ZIRP Economics major that they phased out two years ago. As a result, the Workflow Engine found all the students who were interested in econ as a major and asked them to schedule a call with the econ department at UChicago to learn about this exciting major that doesn't actually exist anymore. General guidelines and tips: Submit the final product in whatever format(s) you think has the best UX for me Each assignment is designed to take 30-60 mins depending on your particular TRM (task-related maturity) for that medium and/or audience The idea isn’t to produce your absolute best work ever (I know you’re capable of something great!) but rather to demonstrate your best work:time ratio, so please limit your effort to those timeframes or thereabouts It’s ok to take longer if it’s your first time ever producing such an artifact, but please note if that’s the case As an appendix to your submission, please include any notes or drafts you made en route to the final product to help me see the approaches you considered taking. (In our regular day-to-day, we’d operate at the notes/drafts level of fidelity for the majority of our collaboration before locking something in and executing.)
