I applied from a job board. I received a phone call for a phone screening request. It was awkward. The recruiter verified who I was, that I applied for the role, and that my expected salary was 75k-80k. I answered all those questions and then she said she would email me with a few times available. A few days later, I screened with the recruiter. It was an hour phone call with lots of questions. Again, the call was awkward. The recruiter had long pauses and I wasn't sure if she was ready to move on, I definitely felt like I ran the interview and it was near impossible to build rapport. At the end she said that they really weren't hiring for the role right now. She very eloquently put that the process could take a few months because they need to get board approval of a start date. I questioned if they were on a hiring freeze due to COVID-19, and she said no, but it didn't seem like they wanted to move forward anytime soon. As a job applicant, I'm looking to find a job now, not in a few months. I did get a request to move on to meet with the hiring manager, but I declined because I had already signed with another organization.
