After sending my application for a Product Designer role, I got an e-mail directly from the Product Director to book a call. I really enjoyed this call, the interviewer was very friendly and polite. We talked about the role in general and my experience. I was also asked to present one of the case studies from my portfolio. Then, almost instantly, I got details about the design challenge and as much as my feelings are mixed when I have to do company-related home assignments, I decided to take my time and do it. The brief was very specific and well-written. I got a week to do the assignment, however, it was recommended to be done within 4 hours. Well... Maybe it's me, but it took me way more time and it's hard for me to believe that there are candidates that can provide meaningful and satisfying solutions in less than 4 hours (for a mid-role). After sending the assignment, we booked a meeting for a presentation. I had to present my solution to at least the design team and a couple of other people. I liked talking to them, they were very respectful and their insights about the project were helpful. I thought that it was a pleasant meeting after all. Then, after more or less 3 days, I got a generic rejection e-mail about having better candidates in their pipeline. I was a little disappointed about that because I was hoping for more feedback after making this very specific assignment. I emailed them asking for more details on what I could improve, but I never got any answer. At this point, it almost feels like I did free consultancy or they were looking for new ideas, hopefully not(!), but to make me feel less like that I would love to get more detailed feedback in rejection e-mail.
