At Sunrise Community, we are one of the nation’s largest private 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations dedicated to empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For over 50 years, we've grown from supporting 50 people in South Florida to serving over 1,400 persons supported across seven states, with a team of more than 2,500 exceptional employees leading the way. Our legacy began with supporting state agencies through deinstitutionalization efforts, and today, we continue to expand by welcoming organizations that share our commitment to person-centered care.

AmeriServe International

Making lives better tomorrow, by what is done today! AmeriServe International, Inc. was established in Nebraska in 1998 by its founder, Wayne Nielsen. During more than fifty years of service in the field, Mr. Nielsen has served on: the president’s Sub-committee on Building Codes and Safety Standards, a primary resource of the United States at the International Congress on Handicapping conditions at the Vatican at the request of the Pope Paul, provided key testimony to the United States Senate Sub-Committee on Developmental Disabilities, as well as many other key roles in the field. Mr. Nielsen has served as a founder and officer of several key organizations in the field of intellectual disabilities and holds the life achievement status of Fellow in the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. His leadership provides key guidance in the field with the publication of his doctoral thesis titled “Organization of Private Residential Facilities for the Mentally Retarded in the Community”. In 2005 AmeriServe International Inc. began offering 24 Hour Supported Community Living and Day Habilitation Services in Council Bluffs, Iowa to nine individuals. We expanded our services to our Supported Community Living (Hourly) in 2015, where we began serving those who needed less support. In 2020 AmeriServe introduced a transition program (Lead-On), to help those transitioning from a 24-hour setting to a more independent lifestyle. AmeriServe has grown over the years and currently serves over 130 individuals. AmeriServe offers person-centered plans for each individual we serve. We believe in coaching over telling and self-awareness over unconscious behaviors. AmeriServe sees you as an individual. We guide you to self-discovery and advocate for you to live the life you want and the goals you wish to accomplish.

Balance Autism

Now Balance Autism, but was formerly known as The Homestead. In 1991, a group of parents and professionals in Iowa came together to create new living and working opportunities for adults with autism. They researched other programs around the country and talked with experts in the field of autism. From these efforts Balance Autism took root. When founded as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in 1994 it was named The Homestead because its earliest program focused on a working farm where adults with autism could live and work, raising fruits and vegetables. Since that beginning 25 years ago, Balance Autism has evolved. Our capabilities have broadened. Our staff has increased. We now serve persons of all ages. As the field of autism research has evolved, we’ve brought its most effective solutions to the persons and families we serve. Today, Balance Autism offers services to more than 300 children and 150 adults annually; employs 400 highly trained and devoted staff members and has an operating budget of $21 million. And yet, as much as we’ve grown, our mission has remained rooted in our core value: to provide balance in the lives of those with autism.

Service Coordination

Service Coordination, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization providing case management services throughout the state of Maryland to individuals with disabilities, those with complex medical needs and serious mental health disorders, transitioning youth, court-involved individuals, older adults and veterans. We believe that services should be tailored to meet people’s needs. Service Coordination provides support to adults and children by connecting them with needed resources and services in their communities. With over 1,000 dedicated team members supporting more than 16,000 people across Maryland, SCI is a place where your work truly matters.

RiseUP

Founded in 1973 by eight community members, RiseUP began with a mission to support vulnerable children in Colorado. What started as group homes for boys evolved in 1976 when Roundup shifted its focus to serving individuals with neurodiversity and developmental disabilities, responding to statewide deinstitutionalization efforts. Over the decades, RiseUP expanded its services to include residential homes, in-home family support, employment and transition programs, adult residential care, and adult day programs. In 1995, RiseUP School was established to serve students who struggled in traditional educational settings and continues to operate today. Now serving nearly 200 individuals across Colorado, RiseUP remains committed to providing person-centered, innovative support that promote independence, dignity, and community connection for individuals with neurodiversity and developmental disabilities

Aspire Living & Learning

Aspire is a nonprofit that has been serving communities for over 40 years. What began as a small team has grown into a multi-state organization across Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maryland. Services include residential programs, day and employment supports, shared living, school partnerships, and behavioral health. Each one is designed around the person, empowering choice, building meaningful connections, and supporting a fulfilling life in the community. With nearly 1,100 employees, Aspire is also focused on creating a workplace where people feel supported to grow and belong. Every role makes a difference, and every team member helps bring the mission to life.
