Placon makes it clear that its place is in packaging. The company makes thermoformed plastic stock and custom packaging for retail, food, and medical markets. Its primarily clear packaging is made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET; the kind of plastic used in water and soft drink bottles). Placon offers retail market manufacturers (in electronics, hardware, health and beauty, household, office products, and sporting goods) a range of more than 150 clamshells (packaging boxes) from which to choose. The business operates two manufacturing plants in the US and China. The company was formed in 1966 by Tom Mohs with a small thermoforming machine that he built in the basement of his home.
