The department acts as the chief corporate office of state government, serving Tennesseans through good business practices and great customer service. The governor’s proposed budget for state government is developed with the oversight of the commissioner of finance and administration, who serves as the governor’s chief financial officer. The department has received various awards for excellence in budget preparation, financial reporting, financial management, use of data and evidence in making policy and budget decisions, and for information systems management and innovation in technology such as the state’s MyTN mobile application which provides mobile users with access to most state services.
