Description SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is one of 17 Department of Energy national laboratories that tackle the critical scientific challenges of our time. Operated by Stanford University for the DOE's Office of Science – the nation’s largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences – SLAC is home to three open-access scientific user facilities: the pioneering Linac Coherent Light Source X-ray free-electron laser, the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource and the FACET test facility for next-gen accelerator technologies. As a vibrant multiprogram laboratory, SLAC’s research spans the fields of particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology, materials, chemistry, bio and energy sciences – including fusion and applied energy – and scientific computing.
