Pros

As someone who is extremely passionate about online privacy and security, it feels incredibly to have finally found a company that has a true, deep respect for user privacy and data security. At 1Password, they don't take shortcuts; they do things the hard way to make absolutely sure that nobody else has access to user data. Rather than using 3rd party tooling, much of it is in-house 1st party tooling built because of security or privacy concerns with 3rd party options. They usually have your first day be a Tuesday or Wednesday, as there is a lot to digest the first few days, such as an extensive security training, setting up tooling and accounts, etc. they don't want you to be overwhelmed your first week. Within my first few days, several people from my team reached out to me on Slack just to say hi and introduce themselves and ask how I was doing, I really appreciated that and it made me feel really welcome. At previous companies, I've often had a feeling like my peers didn't respect my technical expertise or skills, and I don't have even the slightest hint of that feeling at 1Password. There is no "shadow hierarchy" at 1Password, everyone is on a level playing field and everyone will respect you and your skills. 1Password is widely regarded as the best password manager in the industry. Being a fully remote company, it's great to have the $200/year benefit you can use on wellness or home office expenses. The benefits are pretty incredible, the best I've seen from any company I've ever applied to. They'll pay you what you're truly worth -- for the first time, I don't feel like I'm underpaid or undervalued. I haven't been here very long yet, but I feel as though I have TONS of room to grow in my career at 1Password. Excellent work/life balance. Flexible hours -- if you need a couple hours to go to a doctor appointment or take your pet to the vet or something, it's not typically an issue. Being an owner of 3 pets, and someone who just needs to take a break and go for a walk to refresh my brain around midday, I appreciate this. I'm extremely passionate about user privacy and security (those being among my most important personal and professional values), it's amazing to have found a company that shares those values, truly, and isn't just pretending to care about privacy like Facebook or Google; 1Password truly cares about and has the utmost respect for privacy and security.

Cons

At first it can be a bit unclear who you need to request approval from to get access to some internal tooling, or who to request approval from, but to be fair this is largely due to extremely stringent security protocols to ensure there is documentation of who has access to what.

Some growing pains, but they're working on them

Pros

- Flexibility and a truly remote company. - Amazing benefits for US employees. - I was told in interviews that people are caring and compassionate across teams, and it's true. Everyone is super welcoming.

Cons

- Not hiring a lot in the US right now. There also seems to be a preference for Canadians which felt weird when interviewing as a candidate. - The culture has suffered as the company's grown. There aren't a lot of social events to get to know the people you work with aside from truly work-related stuff which has been disappointing. - Being remote has its drawbacks, like the culture and also the inconsistency of communication between different teams. Some are great in Slack, others are only good on a call. - Compensation is still below industry average, especially in the US.

Pros

Full paid healthcare plan for individual and family is probably the top benefit offered at 1Password for U.S.-based employees.

Cons

Zero accountability for various initiatives that don’t drive growth or business metrics
