Pros

The IT department has mature processes that have been thoroughly vetted and work well. They form the basis of a model that can be taken anywhere. Learn and move on. For the most part, they have great people who are extremely knowledgeable and willing to help.

Cons

It is one of the most highly political places I've worked. Cross the wrong person, even inadvertently, and life becomes miserable until you just give up and leave. There are basically two camps: Old Guard and Young Turks. Old Guard still winning, but they are thinning out. There are some outright vindictive VPs and Directors. Not the norm, but tolerated nonetheless. More and more, they are turning to the field to fill corporate management positions. Be prepared to pay some heavy dues to get to management.

Pros

A lot of different stores. Smocks (uniform) provided. Usually they try to place you within a 10 mile radius of your place of residence. Every year they raise a lot of money for the MDA. Currently they have a profit sharing plan although I don't know how long that will continue under the present management.

Cons

You stand 100% of your shift. Most often work hours are 3 pm to 11pm or 11 pm to 7 am. You rarely (if ever) work 7 am to 3 pm-that shift is reserved exclusively for the store manager. You do a lot of cleaning including a very dirty public restroom. You get secret or mystery shopped constantly by all types of organizations including the police. The health and dental benefits are not that great. You always work all holidays and weekends without any extra compensation. Every store is ran differently and not neccessarily by the rules. There is no employee handbook. Supervisors can show favoritism.
