Pros

I have worked for 84 Lumber for 11 years. 9 years as a manager. I started as a Manager Trainee and worked up the ladder. This is a wonderful company to work for. The owner cares about employees and the communities that we are located in. If you are have the right attitude and a good work ethic you can succeed and go as far as you want. All of the tools are provided to you and opportunities are given to do well. The pay is very competitive for our industry and bonuses can be outstanding. It is not for the lazy or unmotivated though. If you don't want to put in the hours and get dirty then need not apply.

Cons

This is not for the lazy. We work a lot of hours and multitask all day.

Whether you have an immense knowledge-base pertaining to the construction industry or literally have zero experience in the field, 84 Lumber provides an incredibly helpful, and intriguing, training program to all of its associates giving them the tools they need to be successful and attain their goals. The education and values instilled at 84 Lumber are traits that are inevitably beneficial to each associate's career, but transcend the work environment and are pertinent to daily life as well. There are a multitude of advancement opportunities within the company with various career paths where an associate can determine what is best for them and/or their families. Working for 84 Lumber, an associate is never in doubt with regards to the overall outlook of the store, and the company as a whole. Everyone works together as a team to achieve clearly outlined goals. These goals are reviewed on a daily basis and each individual can see how their job performance has a direct impact on the company's ability to be successful. Employees are compensated generously and bonus incentives are in place to reward performance. As an associate of 84 Lumber, I can see how our products and services improve the community and allow us to build great relationships with our customers while helping them be successful as well. My responsibilities have afforded me an incomparable sense of pride and I definitely want to spend the remainder of my career with 84 Lumber Company.

Cons

The only aspect I could think of to working with 84 Lumber that some would consider a Con is that some of the stores do not have a temperature-controlled showroom.
