Pros

The pay was adequate. 84 Lumber has a strong brand presence. The main office employees are the biggest cheerleaders for the organization..

Cons

84 Lumber prides itself with doing the most with the least. They do not invest in facility or IT upgrades, your per diem is $20 per day and they do not invest in employee growth.

Pros

hands on experience is good, you're "thrown into the fire" in some senses but you catch on quick...the chance to learn new skills in the industry

Cons

way too many to list but some touch points are low pay/hours ratio...too corporate and "textbook". Managers are too restricted which makes no sense, since they are the ones familiar with local trends and markets, not corporate up in PA.

Pros

Good opportunity for young/inexperienced applicants. Good ability to learn multiple areas of the industry through extensive "hands-on" work. Flexible scheduling.

Cons

Must conform to "84 way." There is little tolerance for "outside the box" thinking. Management will take credit for all positives but find a "fall guy" for any negative performance. False promises for promotion. Longevity/commitment to the company not appreciated or rewarded. Pay is good if you don't look elsewhere. Commission/bonus structure is geared for a strong housing market ONLY. Pay structure will change based on the company's interest without any input from or concern for the employee(s) affected. "Family" atmosphere looks believable until you get involved. If you are a family minded employee then you will likely get ridiculed and eventually tossed out by the "Animal House" style fraternity that is upper management. "Skeleton crews" make it difficult if you get a poor/lazy manager.
