Pros

Strong social mission, excellent salary and benefits including two weeks paid caregiving leave, smart and creative colleagues, tremendous resources. AARP has been great about protecting employees' health throughout the pandemic with most working remotely.

Cons

High risk of burnout in some work units, heavy workload, staff spread thin. Unfortunately, condescending and ageist attitudes from some managers. Experience doesn't always get respect nor count for much.

Pros

Can theoretically touch the lives on tens of millions of seniors - and the brand does carry some weight in certain circles. The organization has a crazy amount of money and resources, with a seemingly endless pocketbook for completely dead end initiatives.

Cons

The mission means something to a small part of the workforce, and to some new hires -- but very little to most of the workforce. The ones that do care end up leaving out of frustration, or being silenced. AARP is where good ideas come to die, politics rule the day, and incompetence gets a promotion.
